Coffee & Coconuts – €€ – 9/10
Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner
Ceintuurbaan 282-284, 1072 GK
Located a bit further out of town, so worth getting a tram or cycling to. Walking distance from Stedelijk, Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum, and close to the Heineken experience.
We heard about this restaurant through our Kiwi mate, Mike. He was living in Holland at the time, and was our tour guide on our first visit to Amsterdam. He told us this was the best place for breakfast in the whole city, and we’d have to agree.
Coffee & Coconuts is a raw, rustic looking cafe/restaurant with the tables suspended from the ceiling by ropes. It gives off a bit of a hipster vibe, with beanbag lounge areas for ‘students of life’ to sip a soy latte and read their first edition signed copy of High Fidelity.
Ally had the blueberry and banana pancakes, served with coconut cream, toasted coconut and maple syrup. I had the scrambled eggs, served on sourdough with miso paste, feta cheese, taiga olives, fresh avocado and extra crispy bacon.
The food was incredible, and the coffee was equally as good. This was the only place we visited on both our first and second trip to Amsterdam.
The only reason this place doesn’t get a 10/10 is that on both occasions, I found the waitresses to be quite disinterested in their jobs. Other than that, I can’t fault the place, so it gets a solid 9.
