Touched down in Canada (or Canadia, as my Dad calls it) on September 12th, 2017. It’s been 3 years since I was last here. My first time was when Ally and I had only been together for 6 months, and I had crossed the pond to meet her family and see where she grew up. Although this is Ally’s home, and she visits on a yearly basis, this time was different. This time my parents had come with us to meet hers.
We booked our flights earlier this year through the travel company ‘Canadian Affair’ who come under the ‘AirTransat’ umbrella. Canadian Affair is a UK based company that specialises in flights from the UK to Canada. We are pretty good at finding good deals on flights and they offered the best price around. We got a one-way ticket for £200, and my parents got a return for £375.
Toronto Pearson airport hasn’t changed much in 3 years. Although, has anyone noticed those new passport scanners are now for non-Canadian citizens too? I got through immigration in less than 5 minutes, but I didn’t get a stamp in my passport. Mixed emotions about that.
Coming into Autumn, Southern Ontario is normally cooling down around this time of year. The previous two weeks had been around 15°C and cloudy. We arrived at a beautiful 25°C when we left the airport, and this heat has stayed with us throughout our stay, reaching a high of 32ºc.
